Digital Technology Resource

Resource Description:

This resource is a unit that ultimately hopes to teach students how to sequence information/events through the development of a PowerPoint that presents the steps to making a slice. However to get to this stage students will need to be initially be reintroduced to the salient features of PowerPoint and then provided time to explore these features. Later, students will then be introduced how to insert pictures, transitions and animation into a PowerPoint and then provided an opportunity to adapt a simple PowerPoint they had developed to include these features. Subsequently students will then learn how to transfer images from a device to a computer. Finally the class brings together the features they have learnt about PowerPoint and assist the teacher in developing a PowerPoint that provides instructions to make a cake (while developing their own at the same time).

Specifically this resource has been designed to teach the following descriptors:

Digital Technologies Processes and Production Skills descriptor:

 

Follow and represent a sequence of steps and decisions needed to solve simple problems (ACTDIP004).

Elaboration: Presenting a sequence of instructions or events in a series of slides on screens with text and pictures.

Digital Technologies Knowledge and Understanding descriptor:

 

Identify, use and explore digital systems (hardware and software components) for a purpose (ACTDIK001).

Elaboration: Exploring and using digital systems for downloading and storing information, for example knowing how to download images from a website and inserting them into a document; saving and retrieving data.

About this Resource:

  • This resource takes place across 9 lessons in 9 weeks (with each lesson lasting for approximately one hour).

  • This resource requires that an hour a week is spent in a computer classroom where every students has access to a computer.

  • This resource is a unit overview that provides a sequence of activties that can be used with students to develop the aforementioned content descriptors. What is more a task sheet and a rubric have included to help with the implementation of this resource.
